Sudden Loss and Tragedy

Standing with those overwhelmed by grief from sudden loss and tragedy.

The world was rocked by the news of Basketball legend Kobe Bryant’s sudden passing in a helicopter crash on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

At the 62nd Grammy Awards, the entertainment world paid tribute to the National Basketball Association (NBA) hall of famer. As sports fans world-wide mourn openly, we can only imagine the emotional anguish of the families and friends of all those who perished in the accident.

In unexpected moments of tragedy and loss, as a Chayil army, we uphold the affected family members and friends in prayer.

A prayer for those who grieve

We pray for God’s comfort to absorb their overwhelming grief. We pray for hope to overshadow despair, and for God’s grace to overtake any feelings of anger and pain. We pray God’s healing and restoration for the broken hearted.

We ask the God of all comfort to uphold those who are bowed down. By His spirit may he draw them unto himself and may they be open to his intimate embrace. May they find peace in the Him who gives beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning and strength for despair (Isaiah 61:3).

Intercede until they are strengthened

Tragedy and sudden loss can lock survivors in dungeons of emotional distress and hopelessness. Loss has that effect to cripple and retard destinies. If we don’t guard our hearts, dysfunction can easily set in and derail us from the full destiny God intends for us. So as a Chayil army manifesting Christ, we stand in the gap and on guard for those affected by grief and we intercede on their behalf until they are fully strengthened and restored.

It is not God’s desire for anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9).

By our prayers we can save the lives of people from wherever we are whether we know the individuals personally or not. This is the power and love of God at work in those who trust and believe in him. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous availeth much.” (James 5:16). Let’s join with heaven and uphold those too weak with grief to lift prayers for themselves.
