A Sure Hope for Everyone Juggling Balls of Uncertainty.
Have you ever seen a single mother and wondered how she does it? Work two or three jobs, be present for her children, stay calm and not drop any of the many balls in her unending juggling act.
When does she breathe and recharge?
Life for most single parents (male and female) who are dedicated to being the best for everyone, is a selfless pursuit. It’s a journey of sacrifice. Their dreams and desires often come last or get shelved. And when they aren’t, the internal conflict of rationalizing their priorities can be relentless. Without a strong support system, single parents risk emotional, physical and mental burnout.
To show up every day they need someone or something to anchor them.
In the last few weeks many of us—in our respective places in the world—have come face-to-face with the fragile balancing act that is a single parent’s norm.
Our world has been thrown out of balance. If we were on track with our life goals and confident all was under control, the COVID-19 global pandemic has threatened to derail that. If we felt secure in the strength of our savings and investments portfolio, the global pandemic risks devaluing and diminishing that. If you’re healthy and resilient, COVID-19 scoffs at and challenges that.
Like most single parents, we all now need an anchor. In the midst of this personal and global quandary, Easter comes and reminds us of the sure hope for all humanity.
“For God so love the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes on Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16).
Jesus Christ, the resurrected Lord who gave His life to save us from being ravished and destroyed, paints us a clear picture of the sure hope He gives: “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. But I have come that you may have life and life more abundantly.” (John 10:10).
To everyone, Jesus Christ offers the anchor of peace in panic. He gives us faith for fear. And calls us to worship Him instead of worrying. Peter who walked with Him, coaches us “Cast all your cares on Jesus for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7). In His own words, Jesus in Matthew 11:28 beckons, “Come unto me all who are weary and heaven laden and I will give you rest for your soul.”
Will you humbly trust him today to be your sure and steady anchor?
Pray: Lord I am nothing without you. I give you my heart. Teach me how to trust you to be my Lord and Savior and allow you to be my anchor. Amen
